Has anyone ordered a metal building kit, and GC’d your own build? I found a place that builds engineered kits for what’s essentially a barndominium shell and I’m seriously considering ordering it. I'd like to build a metal shop/garage on my lot prior to an expensive home. But I got to thinking, maybe there is a better way if I just build them all as one building, metal, and finish the home portion later? My lot is not flat. I have 250' width and 600' deep. 160' in from the road, the property begins to slope and by 180' the slope is a hill. My idea is to put down a Frost Protected Shallow Trench slab foundation, build the steel carport on it, then finish the inside as a regular house. I’d attach wood 2×4’s to the vertical steel studs.
As you go from the front to back of the building, theres more stone. Yes it is a fully enclosed 'carport' aka garage. The wetness on the inside perimeter started even with the light rains but obviously became much worse with the 3 inches of rain in a 2-3 day time.
